Family history

For centuries, the Pfannebeckers have been winegrowers in the southern part of Rhine-Hesse. The winery has become renowned for its elegant dry wines from the Riesling as well as varieties of Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. This includes growing special grapes such as the Yellow Muscat, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.

Since the year 2003, Max Pfannebecker has been responsible for the maturation and the style of the wines. After his training as a viticulture technician in Bad Kreuznach, he took over the management of the family business. His wife Susanne has been on hand with help and advice for him since 2004 – they are the new generation.

Max‘s grandfather, Wolfgang Pfannebecker, founded the present estate in 1960. He decided to leave the estate in the ancient part of town in Pfeddersheim, which had become too narrow, building his new home in the outskirts of Pfeddersheim in the midst of the vineyard site called ‘Kreuzblick’. This enabled him to develop his agricultural business even more towards the direction of viticulture.

His son Holker studied viticulture in Geisenheim where he met his wife Margit. Max‘s parents took over the estate in 1979 focusing on viticulture. The present winery Pfannebecker was created and renamed ‘Burgunderhof’ (Burgundy estate) the owners now being actively committed to boost the appreciation of Pfeddersheim wines.

Today, four generations live and work together managing the winery. Naturally, the family is dedicated to further developing the agricultural roots of viniculture connecting it with a sustainable and lively appreciation of wine.
